Membership in the Counselors Academy is open to any accredited member of PRSA, or accredited member in good standing of the Consultants Institute of the Canadian Public Relations Society.Apply for membership. Members must meet requirements in one of four membership categories: Counselor, Industry Consultant, Retired Counselor, or Educator.
Membership is also possible for non-accredited members, through meeting the Equivalency Standard, which includes:
A bona fide counselor (see membership categories for details)
10 years experience in the field, including at least one at senior management level
Membership Categories
To attract and provide high-value benefit to senior public relations counselors in firms of all sizes, the Counselors Academy requires prospective members to fit one of four membership categories:
Counselor: a professional engaged full time for at least one year in providing counseling, either as a principal, officer or employee of:
a public relations firm
a department or organization that is compensated for rendering these services to clients on a fee for time-of-staff basis.
Industry Consultant: a professional engaged full time as a consultant to public relations agencies and/or corporations, who is paid for providing management advice. Applicants must have been Academy members for at least five years.
Retired Counselor: a professional who has retired from active counseling and is a retired member of PRSA. Applicants must have been Academy members for at least five years.
Educator: a professional whose primary occupation is teaching public relations and/or marketing courses at an educational institution. Applicants must have been Academy members for five years.
