Ben Wheatley is a senior vice president with Pierpont Communications, one of the southwest’s largest public relations firms with offices in Houston, Austin and Dallas. Ben joined Pierpont in 1999 after nearly nine years as a sole public relations practitioner in Houston. Immediately prior, he worked for seven years at Ogilvy & Mather Public Relations in Houston. He has managed public relations campaigns and communication projects for companies in construction, oil and gas, petrochemical, grocery, telecommunications, health care and retail industries.
A former daily newspaper reporter and photographer, Ben has won numerous local, regional and national awards for communication projects, including a Gold Quill from the International Association of Business Communicators. In 1992, IABC/Houston named him the Communicator of the Year, and in 1994 he graduated from LEADERSHIP 20/20, a leadership development program of the Greater Southwest Houston Chamber of Commerce. Additionally, as an Accredited Business Communicator (ABC) by IABC and Accredited in Public Relations (APR) by the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA), he is one of a small number of national communicators with dual professional accreditation. He is an eight-year member of PRSA’s Counselors Academy and has worked on several of its conference committees. Ben served as the 2001 president of the Houston chapter of PRSA, two years as president of the Public Relations Foundation of Houston and as president of IABC/Houston in 1981. He earned his BS and MS in journalism and mass communication from Kansas State University, Manhattan, Kan.
